Greetings!
I know it certainly has been a very long time since I last posted! It has been a lot longer than I ever expected it to take to get Internet in the apartment. It is not high speed, but I am not complaining since now I can have contact with family and friends when I want to...not when I can get to someone else's computer. I will take several posts or so to get everyone brought up to speed over these past weeks since I've arrived in Majuro. First of, it is a short a sound, ur sound, and a long o. Next, they eat rice with just about every meal...not breakfast usually though. We can buy 20 lb. bags of rice at the store! We have in the apartment something called a rice cooker, which is only used to cook rice. They eat it plain, but my roommates will put ketchup on it. Oh, something else...they put kool-aid on lots of things that they eat! Speaking of eating...a week or so after we were here, one of the deacons of the church had a birthday party that I went to. Let me explain what Island time is...If you say the party is at 7, island time means it will actually start around 9. At 9, they began passing out to go boxes. Each person received 2 to go boxes. One had meat in it...which included fish, raw fish, ribs, and chicken. Guess what I ate out of that...you got it, chicken! Well, then the other box had a small local banana, breadfruit, papaya, Cole slaw, mashed pumpkin, coconut mixture, some kind of thin noodle, and of course the staple~rice. I tasted everything in this box. Breadfruit is pretty bland. They also passed out cups of their fruit salad. Then, they passed out to ones that wanted it lobster in a box itself! I think they said the man's birthday was turning 70...they said was unusual for here. But he is a land owner. He also works with health evacuations from the outer islands, and his wife is one of the queens on island. They actually have a Marshallese hymn book for church...his wife lets me use it each service...not that I understand much of it, but I can sometimes put together sounds and letters. :) I guess my Internet connection is not very good. I cannot get any pictures to upload on the blog. It keeps saying Internet server was lost. It wasn't, but I guess it is just too slow. I am working on setting up a photo album online, I guess for those of you that are not on facebook. I was able to post pictures there...on the Mission trip group page. I am not finished updating the pictures, I just post as I can.
Question: What color is coconut milk? many people can pop a hole in the coconut...they either put a straw in it or just drink from it like a cup...for the milk that is in it.  The island is only 7 feet above sea level.
